If it's a whiny ranting post, it must be Monday

I just don't get it.

I live in Modesto, the city of "American Graffiti" fame. During the summer, it seems like you can't go more than a few hours without there being a classic car show of some sort. Driving is really popular here.

So why do so many people here suck so badly at it?

Honestly, is a four-way stop so hard to figure out? I've almost been nailed more than once because some rolling brain trust isn't paying attention to whose turn it is, looks at me as I pull into the intersection after waiting for my turn, and then -- while looking directly at me, mind you -- pulls out about halfway before stopping abruptly when their synapses fire enough to remind them that the laws of physics preclude the possibility of our cars occupying the same space at the same time.

And I'd like to throw out a special shout-out of love to the giant truck-driving moron who not only parked so close to my car that oxygen couldn't reach the driver's-side door but also did so in a spot clearly marked "Compact." You could just barely see it under the back end of the truck that was sticking out into the road.

Modesto may be the car theft capital of the country, but I'm hoping it isn't the moron motorist capital as well. I'm guessing it just seems that way because I'm boring and don't get out much.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go yell at those damn kids on my lawn.
